About Our Intern Program

CBP’s Internship Program allows students and emerging professional photographers access to on going mentorship, portfolio development, photography critiques, scheduled photography classes and photo assisting.trans | Christopher Barr Phoenix Advertising, Corporate, Commercial PhotographerInterns can participate in the program in the Phoenix area or in many cases, right from their home city/on-line. The program is fluid and structured  to meet needs of both our studio and the intern.  Interns may post their work on the CBP Blog for peer review and critiquing and support their own website SEO through it.  Phoenix interns have access to discounted studio time when available.

Interns are responsible for at least 10 hours a month of studio support including pre production, post production, office administration, website updating, video editing/post, marketing/phone, etc.  If you have existing skills, related or unrelated to our field, those are the ones most likely to be utilized.  Attrition rates are high but for those that last, opportunities to shoot and work directly for the studio are common.  Many of our interns continue to be associated with our company years after their internships.

Classes are currently taught in Phoenix but will soon be accessible on line in real time instead.  Classes are scheduled based on Chris’ availability, usually every 30-90 days.  Some assignment completion is required.  Classes include:  Pro Photography Assisting (required for anyone wanting to assist on Chris’ sets) • Portraiture Basics Review – Portraiture Triad • Understanding and Manipulating Light Fields (studio & location) • Identifying Light Fields on Location (Field Trip) • Light Booth Demo • Photographer Subject Relationship (Shooting civilians vs professionals, groups, children) • Problem Solving, Facial Geometry & Banding • Basic Gestalt • Posing Techniques • Pre-Production Issues (Client Relationship, Casting, Crew Issues) • Business Practices (marketing, estimate, invoicing, copyright, etc).
